![]() The exterior is painted in Liquid Bronze Metallic paint, with 21-in., 14-spoke interlocking chrome aluminum wheels that have body color accents. A flat screen deploys from a floating overhead console which also hides two small cameras, each aimed at the rear seats to provide on-screen conference calling. The center console runs the entire length of the interior and contains individual air vents, audio and climate controls, as well as personal storage. It uses light emitting diodes (LEDs) positioned so that a glow emanates from the center of three circular dials and radiate to the outer edges of the dials. The instrument panel and bi-level center console, finished in oak veneer, houses technologies including an instrument cluster inspired by Swarovski crystals. Until now, projection was limited to flat surfaces with square or rectangular boundaries. On the center stack, Ford designers invented and patented a solid-state lighting technology that allows data to be projected onto a contoured surface in 3D. Other environmentally friendly details include the hand-knotted rug made from banana silk that covers the floor and complements the contrasting chromium-free pearl leather seats. Second-row heated and cooled seats have thigh supports that deploy from under the seats, while footrests slide back from the front seats, allowing rear-cabin passengers to recline fully. Four oversized chairs offer comfort and leg room. The Lincoln MKT concept's seats emulate those found in first-class aircraft cabins. Some applications of the resins help the vehicle resist heat and chemicals and others improve overall noise and vibration, according to Ford. The resins are made from recycled soft-drink bottles and other polyester waste, keeping them out of landfills, reducing energy consumption and shrinking the vehicle's overall carbon footprint. Two upcycled plastic materials, Valox iQ and Xenoy iQ, were used in making the Lincoln MKT body panels, energy absorbers (bumpers), wire bundles (electronics) and glazing (windows). The MKT's fuel efficiency gets a helping hand by weight saving "upcycled" materials from SABIC Innovative Plastics. Play icon The triangle icon that indicates to play Mark Fields, Ford's President of The Americas, said "The Lincoln MKT concept offers the comfort of a luxury sedan, the spaciousness and flexibility of a full-size utility and the performance of a sporty roadster… with new technologies and materials that make it as environmentally friendly as it is elegant." To further efficiency, the MKT has electric power steering, weight reductions and much of the body was sculpted with an eye toward maximum aero performance. It's a high output version of Ford's new family of Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDi) engines. The MKT concept features a 3.5-liter V-6 EcoBoost engine with 415-hp and 400 lb-ft of torque – an impressive 118-hp per liter. It's a great look that hasn't been seen in very many crossover vehicle concepts. But the body is designed as a four-door hardtop with a glass roof to let in light. The MKT features the same toothy new split front grill as the upcoming MKS luxury sedan. DETROIT - At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this morning, Lincoln unveiled a new premium utility concept vehicle reportedly based on the same mechanical bits and platform as the Ford Flex crossover coming next year.
